01/05/2026 On Wednesday 29th April, two members of the Association Committee met with President of the Algoz Junta Fábio Antão and the vice president, Sónia Pais in Foral. The following were discussed and decided:

1.       Following a walk to a few of the badly affected side roads, Fábio Antão confirmed that repair work on these will begin as soon as Silves Municipal Council (CMS) makes the necessary machinery available. This machinery is currently in use in other Silves Junta’s and he couldn’t give exact timings for the work to begin. He did say that it is likely to take some weeks.

2.       The Junta has asked the appropriate authorities for STOP signs to be installed on the junctions of side roads and the main road. This request is currently under consideration.

3.       The issue of falling or dangerously leaning trees was also raised by the Association. Fábio Antão stressed that if any accidents occur, e.g. trees fall on houses, the incident should be reported to the emergency services by dialling 112. If however, there are dangerous conditions that may pose a future risk or lead to a possible accident, they should be reported to the Protection Civil. We will publicise the contact details, along with other emergency numbers shortly.

4.       Fábio Antão said that the Junta vehicles pass the main road as frequently as possible to clear up the rubbish dumped by the bins, but the illegal dumping of rubbish is a real problem in most places. While we were walking along the main road, one lorry stopped and dumped some building rubbish by the recycling bins! Fabio spoke to the driver, took some photos and reported the matter to the law enforcement authorities.

5.       All previous documents communicating the dangerous conditions of the main road, including the photos of traffic accidents and emergency vehicles will be sent to Fabio again by the Association. He will follow these up again with Municipal Council of Silves (CMS).

6.       Fábio Antão also said that anyone concerned with illegal installation and use of temporary housing in Foral should report these in writing, with as much information as possible including photographs to CMS, as only they will be able to assess if these installation are legal and have the correct permits.

7.       The new owners of plot 76 where the post boxes are located have expressed their wish to permanently donate a small section of their land to the Junta of Algoz. This will ensure that the post boxes can remain in their current location and the Junta will become responsible for the maintenance of this small parcel of land. Fábio Antão will investigate the legal possibility and requirements for this donation to happen and inform the owners of the plot directly.

21/04/2026 It was agreed during the meeting with the Junta that a survey will be carried out by the Association to document how bad the surfaces of some of the side roads are, using a plan of Larga Vista. Fabio Antao, the president of the Junta will then visit these roads with members of the Committee by the end of the month and agree a plan of action.
